Sunday, 18 May 2025 14:38 GMT

Buis retook the Riders’ Championship lead by holding off his rivals and sealing the final race at Most in 2025

The FIM Supersport 300 World Championship’s Race 2 at the Motul Czech Round was rain-delayed during the Warm-Up lap, after the rain delay, the riders returned to the track for the race over a shortened 10-lap distance. The two-time WorldSSP300 World Champion reasserted himself atop the podium and Championship standings alike. His 25 points from the race win putting him back on top of Julio Garcia (Prodina Kawasaki Italka Racing) with 97, and Benat Fernandez (Team #109 Retro Traffic Kove) with 96.

BUIS RETURNS TO TOP OF PODIUM: 4th win this year, two more will tie Huertas for most wins in a WorldSSP300 season

David Salvador (Team ProDina XCI), Carter Thompson (MTM Kawasaki) and Benat Fernandez had a great start to the race, shooting off at lights out, however after first chicane, Buis had slid his way into P1. Fernandez, Maier, Buis, Salvador, and Bartolini all battled for P1, overtaking each other repeatedly as they group slipstreamed off of each other to shuffle the order lap in-lap out. On the final lap, the Brazilian and the #7 tailed Buis as the final straight approached, and as they rounded the final corner, both lacked the pace to catch the streaking Buis who claimed his first race win since his Assen double, and his 17th career WorldSSP300 win. Maier’s P3 meant a sixth career podium for the Brazilian who still chases his first win. Rookie Fernandez made it back-to-back podiums at Most for his third in his rookie season.

SLIM MARGINS: Less than a quarter of a second between P1 and P5

David Salvador (Team ProDina XCI) missed the podium by only 0.072s. Just 0.048s behind Salvador, his teammate Julio Garcia claimed P5, less than a quarter of a second ahead of fellow teammate Antonio Torres (Team ProDina XCI) who battled back to P6 despite his long lap penalty for Irresponsible riding assessed by FIM WorldSBK Stewards after a Race 1 crash.

FONTAINHA P10: Best result of 2025 for him and the first top 10 of the season with both Brazilians present

Carter Thompson (MTM Kawasaki) despite his good jump off the line dropped in pace as the race went on, finishing in P7 outside the group fighting for the podium. Marco Gaggi (Team BrCorse) was hot on the Australian’s tail, crossing the line in P8 just 0.014s behind him. Race 2 meant a second P8 for Gaggi on the weekend. Pepe Osuna (ZAPPAS-DEZA-BOX 77 Racing Team) earned another P9 at Most, for his fourth ninth-place result of the season. Rounding out the top 10, Kevin Fontainha (Yamaha AD78 FIMLA by MS Racing) earned P10, meaning both Brazilian riders finished in the top 10 for the first time in 2025.

TOUGH RACE FOR HOME RIDERS: Novotny and Svoboda

Unfortunately for the home fans, Filip Novotny (Accolade Funds Smrx Racing BGR) crashed out of the race on the Turn 2 chicane in the first half of the race, and fellow Czech rider Petr Svoboda (Kawasaki Junior Team by MTM) opted to retire; he had chosen wet tyres when the race got underway .. Elia Bartolini (Team BrCorse) led the pack for the first time this season, jumping up the grid to challenge with the lead group from his start position a back in P14 until his unfortunate crash in Turn 1 later on in the race; he has been given a double Long Lap Penalty for irresponsible riding for his next race.
